Three Minute Thesis (3MT®)

  • Cheer on your peers as they put their research in the spotlight! It's no small task to explain your research and its impacts in three minutes so we're in for a great competition!

    • Heats: Tuesday, March 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (schedule on the 3MT® web page)
    • Finals (top six competitors): Wednesday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m.
    • Both rounds of competition take place in the Business and Information Technology Building (UB) Mezzanine (second floor).
  • Want to get involved? We are looking for volunteers to help during both heats and finals. For more information, email gradengage@uoit.ca

Thesis reminders

  • Are you defending your thesis in the Winter 2019 term? Or are you planning on defending in the Spring/Summer 2019 term? Once you have successfully defended your thesis, you must formally submit a thesis package to SGPS. Submission procedures, deadlines and conditions can be found in the Graduate Academic Calendar or on the SGPS website.  If you have any questions, email gradthesis@uoit.ca.

We want your feedback!

  • Every three years, the university commits to taking part in the Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey (CGPSS). In order to improve graduate programs, we need to hear from as many grad students as possible. Your personalized survey link has been distributed to your UOITnet email.
  • If you agree to participate, the questionnaire will take about 20 minutes to complete. You do not need to complete the entire survey in one sitting. Those who complete the survey are eligible to win one of five $50 gift certificates.

Campus events and opportunities

  • Nominations are now open for the Student Life Awards of Recognition. Students can be nominated for the Student Leadership Awards in the areas of Accountability (Ethics), Community Building, Innovation, Respect and for the Graduate President's Awards of Excellence in Student Leadership. Nominations will be accepted until April 30.
  • Come celebrate Mother Language Day on Wednesday, March 20! This event highlights the linguistic and cultural diversity on our shared campus and features student-led exhibitions and presentations of language and culture.
  • Equity Awareness Week is March 18 to 21. Information booths will be at both campus locations Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. This event is part of the #LetsTalkEquity series moving equity and inclusion forward on our campus!
  • Ready for a cultural journey across the globe? Durham College Students Inc. and the UOIT Student Union have partnered to bring you the most anticipated event of the year – Pangaea! This event on Thursday, March 21 celebrates the diverse cultures on campus by serving up delicious cuisine and stellar performances from around the world!
  • Leading cybersecurity industry experts will be on campus hosting a panel discussion and networking event on March 28 for the university community to learn about co-op, internship and career opportunities, as well as industry updates and advancements. Complimentary lunch generously provided by CATA Cyber Alliance.
  • The Brilliant Incubator is a four-month intensive program that runs during the summer. This program is open to all university students and alumni. If you have a business idea or are interested in the world of startups, the Brilliant Incubator will help develop your business further. Applications are due March 29.
  • Register for Boot Camp in Essential Workplace Communications, which will take place April 29 to May 3. This one-week boot camp will teach you about intercultural and global communications, interpersonal communications, public speaking and presentations, and social and digital media. You will also be able to start producing an e-portfolio that will prepare you for entering the workforce!
  • Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are invited to participant in the 2019 International Policy Ideas Challenge, organized by Global Affairs Canada in partnership with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Application deadline is March 29.

Money matters

  • From Student Awards and Financial Aid (SAFA): If you are returning to full-time studies during the Spring/Summer semester and receive OSAP, complete the Spring/Summer 2019 Extension Form. The form will be available through MyCampus (under the SAFA tab) the week of March 25.
  • Registration for SAFA Financial workshops is available through MyCampus (under the SAFA tab).
