Three Minute Thesis (3MT®)

Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the 2018 3MT® competition! This year's finalists were:

  • Eryn Frawley (first place), Master of Science (Modelling and Computational Science) candidate: Safety in Numbers: Animal Aggregation
  • Elysabeth Reavell-Roy (second place), PhD (Applied Bioscience) candidate: Applying genetic analysis of plant cell walls to sustainable biofuel production
  • Tara Hattangadi (People's Choice winner), Master of Health Sciences (Community, Public and Population Health) candidate: Everybody I know is always hungry, but nobody really asks why: Exploring food insecurity and psychological distress in university students
  • Taylor Egan, Master of Applied Science (Electrical and Computer Engineering) candidate: Powering resilient, interconnected transportation infrastructure
  • Heather McCracken, Master of Health Sciences (Kinesiology) candidate: Multisensory integration in adult ADHD
  • Harmeet Nanner, Master of Health Sciences (Community, Public and Population Health) candidate: Informing the medical assistance in dying debate with objective data

Graduate Student Research Conference

  • Registration for the 9th-Annual Graduate Student Research Conference is now open! The full day conference will take place on Thursday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year's theme is Bridging the Gap. The day will include two keynote speakers, data-blitz, symposia, workshop and short lectures from professors. Lunch is included. Register now!

Faculty highlight

  • Margarita Tzivaki, a PhD candidate in Nuclear Engineering (Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science), presented at the International Youth Nuclear Congress/WiN Global Annual Conference (IYNCWIN18) in Bariloche, Argentina. Her work was selected among the best contributions of the congress, giving her an opportunity to publish in the Journal of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Science. Congratulations Margarita!

Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision

  • The UOIT Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision recognizes faculty members who have displayed excellence in the mentorship and supervision of graduate students. The application for this year's award is now available, with a deadline of May 31, 2018. We encourage faculty, staff and students to submit nominations. Learn more about the award and the application process on the SGPS website.

  • Nominations for the annual Student Life Awards of Recognition are now open! The awards are an opportunity for students, staff and faculty to nominate students they feel have made an exceptional contribution to the campus community and have inspired others to do the same.
